Inspiration

My main inspiration came from my upbringing. Within my family it was always important to be good. I never felt any great expectations it was just a big part of the family value that you committed to something and that you worked hard. I come from a very competitive family, where for example my older brother and sister were extremely good golfers. The competition between us was always apparent.

I always felt, within the family, that striving was important and therefore going the extra mile was always in us from young age...

I also remember my brother taking me to the movies (pre-tv golf...) to watch the official movies of the majors. I remember sitting there in the dark watching the greatest golfers from far away places, playing the big championships thinking Waaauuww that is what I want to do!!

Another great inspiration was on a junior national team trip to France where I got to watch the final round of the French Open. I walked all 18 holes with Nick Faldo and couldn’t believe how close you could get to him. I couldn’t believe the massive crowds and the fantastic atmosphere and to this very day I still remember what clothes he was wearing and most of the shots that he hit!

I had a similar experience with a Danish badminton player. I was a keen player myself and one day the Olympic Gold winner Poul Erik Høyer came to my club for an exhibition. I remember sitting in the locker-room with and looking at him like he was god. Yet again I thought “Olympic gold winner- How cool must that be?

Looking back I was just in a great environment all around. I always had players to look up to and I always wanted to beat these guys. Today, nothing has changed really, instead of being the boy 1 year older than me it is now Harrington, Westwood and Kaymer I want to beat!

Inspiration comes easily if you love what you do and love the journey that you are on................Enough said!
